Mountain Checkout

Before flying into any airport above 2000' MSL, you should be proficient in mountain flying techniques.

Airplanes perform differently in the mountains. You answered questions about that on your Private Pilot exam, and now you need to know how your airplane is actually going to perform - and how you are going to perform as a pilot adapting to different conditions. The best way to do this is to grab a CFI and head for the hills.

We'll first spend time with a ground lesson to emphasize what to expect. We'll then go practice at several high elevation airports and give you a true appreciation for an aircraft's decreased performance characteristics at high altitude. When the training is complete you'll know what to expect when taking your friends and family to the mountains.

Please: whether or not you choose me, don't even think of venturing into high country without first obtaining both ground and flight training that is specific to mountain flying. If you do choose me, we can make a day of it and have a great time. A little more time and effort could also make it your BFR.
